Respiratory System Involve the larynx
and lungs. Lung cancer is by far, the more common of the two kinds. The
death rate among lung cancer patients is very high. Usually the
disease has already spread to other parts of the body before it
is detected so only 10% of all lung cancer patients are saved.
Breast Cancer It attacks about 100 women for every
man. Also 75% of breast cancers occur in women over the age 40.
Female breast cancer patients whose disease is found and treated
before it has spread beyond the breast have good long term survival
rates. 65%-75% of such patients remain free of the disease for 10
years or longer after treatment.
Reproductive System The male organ most often affected
is a sex gland, the prostate. More than 70% of the men treated for
prostate cancer recover and show no signs of the disease at the
end of five years. Whereas the most common cancers of the female
reproductive system are those that affect the child bearing organ,
the uterus. Most cancers of the uterus affect the lower neck like
part, which is called cervix. Cervical cancer patients, have five
year survival rate about 65%.
Blood forming and lymphatic systems: Cancer of the
bone marrow and other blood forming organs is called leukemia. It
involves the multiplication of immature blood cells. Cancer of lymphatic
organs is called lymphoma. Both leukemia and lymphoma have several
forms. Kinds of leukemia are such as A M L, C G L (chronic granlocyte),
C M L (chronic meyloid leukemia), ALL (acute lymphatic leukemia).
Example of lymphoma is Hodgkin's and non-hodgkin's disease nowadays
lymphoma and leukemia have greatly increased the survival rate.
Cancer of the Urinary System These diseases occur
less often than do cancers of the other major body systems. The
most affected organ is the bladder and it affected males more than
females.
