The Objectives of the National Campaign for the Early Detection of Cancer

1- The importance of the early detection of cancer.
2- Raising awareness on the early detection of cancer.

The joint committee supervising this campaign is composed of the following:

1- The Committee on Women Affairs affiliated to the Higher Council for Family Affairs.
2- Ministry of Public Health.
3- Hamd Medical Foundation.
4- Ministry of Education and Culture.
5- Qatar National Cancer Society.

Early Warning Symptoms
• Skin ulcers or sores that do not heal with the regular treatments within two weeks.
• Wart-mole blackens or starts to itch or bleed or becomes infected.
• Continuous hoarseness or a change in the voice that does not fade in a short period of time.
• Persistent cough despite treatment that might be accompanied by secretions (sputum) or blood coughing.
• Lump or tumor in the breast, generally not painful, or a change in the form or size of one of the breasts or a change in the skin of the breast in the form of a depression or penetration or bleeding of the nipple.
• Tumor in any place in the body or a swollen lymph node in the neck or the underarm area or benign tumors.
• Swallowing difficulty or continuous vomiting or suffering from persistent indigestion with a loss of appetite or suffering from symptoms of anemia, such as paleness, weakness or swollen stomach or the presence of a lump or persistent pain.
• Blood in urine or swollen stomach or the presence of a lump or persistent pain.
• Abnormal bleeding from the uterus before or after menstruation or the appearance of abnormal secretions from the uterus.
• Abnormal bleeding from anywhere in the body.

• Stop smoking immediately. Smoking is a sure way to cancer.
• Abstain from drinking alcohol. Alcohol causes cancer especially in the digestive system.
• Avoid obesity or gaining weight because they cause breast, uterus and colon cancer.
• Avoid exposure to the sun, especially if you have fair skin use umbrellas that absorb UV rays during exposure to the sun.
• Follow methods of health security in the work places that use harmful chemicals such as asbestos, some dyes and arsenic, chrome, nickel, tar and radiation.
• Decrease consumption of fats and butter in the food and replace red meat with chicken and fish.
• Increase consumption of fruits, vegetables and foods that contain fibers because they protect the body from cancer.
• Hasten to consult your doctor or a medical center upon appearance of any symptom from the early signs symptoms.
• Women should go to specialized centers to perform a pap smear once every three years despite the presence or the absence of symptoms.
• Women should also keep up their self-examination routines once every month.
