Final Statement:

The First Gulf Conference on Breast Cancer was held in Doha, Qatar, during the period extending from 5 to 7 October, 2003 under the patronage of her Highness Sheikha Moza Bint Nasser Al Masnad, the wife of his Excellency the Prince of Qatar and the President of the Higher Council for Family Affairs in the State of Qatar. The conference was organized by the Qatar National Cancer Society in cooperation with the Gulf Cancer Union.

Participants from Qatar, Kuwait, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Sultanate of Oman, Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates as well as delegations from Canada, UK, Spain, Italy and other Arab countries and representatives of the International Cancer Union, in addition to some prominent figures and a number of concerned attended this conference.

The agenda of the conference included a number of scientific sessions and lectures on breast cancer and early detection, in addition to other relevant issues. On the margin of the conference, workshops have been organized on self-examination by women for the detection of breast cancer. These workshops also tackled specialized topics in this field especially since they were open and attended by a number of specialized individuals and those concerned with the problem of breast cancer.
