Early detection of breast cancer through good 'breast care' improves the chances of successful treatment. Different breast care strategies are appropriate for different ages:

REPORT BREAST CHANGES
It is important that all women know how their breast normally feel. However, if you notice:
• A lump in your breast that persists after your period
• Bleeding or discharge from the nipple
• A change in the shape of the breast
• Puckering or dimpling of the breast
• New retraction (pulling in) of the nipple
or any change in your breast not normal to you, see your doctor promptly.

BREAST EXAMINATION BY YOUR DOCTOR
• Yearly breast examination by a doctor for women 35 and above is recommended.

MAMMOGRAM (X-ray of the breast)
• Can detect very early breast cancer before it can be felt
• Recommended every 2 years from 50-69 years unless advised otherwise by your doctor
• For more information contact Qatar Cancer Society at 4478128

BREAST SELF EXAMINATION (BSE)
• Women can become familiar with how their breast normally feels, so that changes are more easily noticed (turn over for outline)
• Do this once a month or just following the end of your period
• This is especially important for women aged 35 and above.
