Early detection of breast cancer through good 'breast
care' improves the chances of successful treatment. Different breast
care strategies are appropriate for different ages:
REPORT BREAST CHANGES
It is important that all women know how their breast normally feel.
However, if you notice:
A lump in your breast that persists after your period
Bleeding or discharge from the nipple
A change in the shape of the breast
Puckering or dimpling of the breast
New retraction (pulling in) of the nipple
or any change in your breast not normal to you, see your doctor
promptly.
BREAST EXAMINATION BY YOUR DOCTOR
Yearly breast examination by a doctor for women 35 and above
is recommended.
MAMMOGRAM (X-ray of the breast)
Can detect very early breast cancer before it can be felt
Recommended every 2 years from 50-69 years unless advised
otherwise by your doctor

BREAST
SELF EXAMINATION (BSE)
Women can become familiar with how their breast normally
feels, so that changes are more easily noticed (turn over for outline)
Do this once a month or just following the end of your period
This is especially important for women aged 35 and above.
