 The
Qatar Cancer Society is a national society whose main objective
to control the cancer disease through public awareness, contribution
in cleaning the environment and cooperation with the health authorities
via bulletins, booklets, conferences, lectures and research studies.
The society was formed in 1997 under the Patronage of his highness
SH. Jassim Bin Hamad Al Thani, honorary president of the Qatar
National Cancer Society and the Chairman is Dr. Khalid Bin
Jabor Al Thani.
The main purpose of the society lies in the fact that almost 70%
of the cancer can be avoid and controlled by preventive measure, but
nevertheless many citizens and residents die every year as a result
of this hazardous disease.
Its objectives include:
Proposing health policies and a comprehensive program for combating
cancer.
Survey and quantify rates of occurrence and spread of the disease
and the sequential effects on health, social and economic aspects
of the community.
Propose recommendations and plans for prevention, such as campaign
against smoking.
Coordination between all concerned with cancer therapy and
follow up
developments in other countries.
Convening of conference and seminars to increase knowledge
of the disease with the participation of foreign experts.
Maintaining contacts with similar societies in the gulf and
other countries as well
as with the relevant international organizations to benefit from their
experience and coordinates efforts in this field.
Comprehensive awareness programs in the media.
Give all possible support to cancer patients especially those
in need.
Support research and publications on the subject and update
information on the latest available treatment of the disease.
